Guest Speaker - Mary J. Kotob, MD, FACOG

Topic:  "Is the Catholic Church's Teaching on Contraception Outdated?  A Catholic Physician's Perspective." 

Dr. Kotob grew up in Newport Beach-attended Newport Elementary, Ensign Jr. High and graduated from Newport Harbor High School. Her undergraduate degree is in Biochemistry from UC Davis, where she did research in genetics. Having done research projects at UC Irvine in 1977-78 and at Stanford/Bechman Institute in 1979/80, she moved on to Loyola Medical School in Chicago graduating with an MD in 1984. In 1983, she studied at Yale University in Plastic Surgery. Following a surgical internship at St. Mary’s Hospital in San Francisco, she completed an OB/Gyn residency at Albany Medical Center as aChief Resident in 1988. Dr. Kotob practiced in upstate New York until 1993 when she and her family returned to Southern California. She practiced OB at St. Joseph Hospital until 2000 and has since concentrated on GYN, coming on staff at Hoag Hospital in 2002.
